IDIOCRACY

Mike Judge of Beavious and Butthead fame made a movie in 2005 called Idiocracy. I finally watched it. It tanked in the theatres, but I dont think it was because it was entirely lame. I mean for most people it's not exactly cinema extrodinare. It is however a scathing social commentary. If you can get past the language and subject matter it is a sadly hilarious look at where society is heading.
Basically a guy is frozen and wakes up 500 years from now. Everything and everyone is a complete idiot. He is not the smartest man in the world.
I laughed out load several times (I do have a pretty crazy sense of humor) but I could not believe the depth of Judge's insight into the human condition. As a Christian I saw so many parrellels to the modern biblical narrative.
The Bible talks about how people seeming become smarter and smarter, more wise in their own wisdom when in actuality they are becoming more and more ignorant of the broader scope of things. It is so true. The oppening procreation stuff is just too true and sad. If only we were half as smart and important as we think we are we might indeed have a chance.
Truthfully though arent we really the whole problem. Is it not our "intelligence" that has placed us in the mess we find our selves a part of.
With all our talk of science, knowledge, understanding and answers its funny how much mystery remains and how much ignorance previals.
When we fail to answer the deeper things of life or be comfotable with mystery in some things we loose part of who we really were made to be. We cease in our searching to be truely human I think. And that my friends makes and funny film....
